Remove a language
Remove a target language from a project, together with every translation written in it.
Removing a language deletes its translations and their version history, not only the language. Keys, source text and every other language are untouched.
Removing a language needs the Developer role or above. A member scoped to particular languages can only remove a language they have access to.
There is no undo
The translations and their history are deleted, and adding the language again gives you an empty language. If you might want them back, export the language first from Settings, then Export, or pull it with the CLI.
Remove the language
Find the language
Open the project. Find the language's row in the Locales table on the overview, or on Settings, then Languages.
Select Remove
Select Remove on its row.
Confirm
The dialog, Remove language?, says how many translated strings are deleted with it, or that nothing has been translated into it yet. For a language with 100 or more translated strings, type the language's name to confirm. Select Remove language.
What happens next
- The row disappears, and a message confirms it, such as "German removed, along with 240 translations."
- Translation runs no longer include the language.
- The workspace's Admins and the account's Owners, including you, get an email saying what was removed and how much went with it. The removal is recorded in the project's activity and in the workspace audit log.
- Translations already published to the CDN or built into your app keep working until your next deploy.
If this was a mistake, contact support the same day: a backup is the only remaining copy, and backups are not kept forever. See Get help.
If it doesn't work
- "The source language cannot be removed.": a project always has exactly one source language.
- Remove is not shown on a row: you need the Developer role or above, with access to that language.
