Onboard a vendor or freelancer
Invite an outside translator so they see one project, and only the languages you hired them for.
Who can do this: admins, the Owners of the account that holds the workspace, and members whose role includes Invite, re-role and remove members.
Decide the project and the locales before you send the invitation. Scoping the invitation is what separates a contractor who sees one job from one who sees your whole workspace. As the People page puts it: "Widening a seat later is easy; narrowing one is a conversation."
Start an invitation
Open Settings, choose the Workspace tab, then People, and select Invite someone.
Enter their address and role
Enter their Email address and choose Translator as the Role. Choose Reviewer instead if they should also approve translations. Select Choose a scope.
Scope it to one project
Under What they can open, pick the project they will work on instead of All projects.
Name the locales
In Locales they will own, list the languages, for example de, pt-BR. Leave it empty to give them every locale in that project.
Review and send
Select Review the invite, check What they will see, then select Send the invite.
What happens next
When they accept, they join the workspace as a project-scoped member: they can open that one project and nothing else, and the People page shows their access as project-scoped. "Every other project, and every locale you leave out, is invisible to them." A project-scoped member also does not see the workspace's AI word usage.
A Translator can edit translations in the locales they hold and cannot approve them, so somebody else signs off their work. To give them a tracked job with a review step rather than open-ended access, assign them the language as well. See Assign a language to a translator.
If it doesn't work
- "That project does not belong to this workspace.": the project you picked is not in this workspace.
- "Unknown locale: use BCP-47 tags like de or pt-BR.": check the locale tags.
- They see nothing after accepting: check their grant on the project's Project access page. See Grant access to one project.
