Add a glossary term
Add a term to the project's glossary so it is translated the same way, or kept as written, everywhere.
Owners, Admins and Developers can add terms, on Starter and above.
Add a term in the console
Open the glossary
Open the project and select Glossary in the sidebar.
Open the form
Select Add term. The Add glossary term dialog opens.
Describe the term
- Source term: the word or phrase as it appears in your source language. Up to 255 characters.
- Notes (optional): context for translators, such as what the term refers to.
- Tick Case-sensitive if capitals are part of the term.
- Tick Do not translate to keep the term exactly as written in every language, or Forbidden if the term must never appear in a translation.
Save
Select Add term. The notice reads "Term added."
The term applies from the next translation, and the next quality check checks existing translations against it. It does not retranslate what you already have.
Set the wording for each language
The Add glossary term dialog sets the term and its rules. To fix the wording each language must use, such as Kasse for Checkout in German, import a CSV or TBX file with a column per language. Importing a term that is already in the glossary updates it rather than adding it twice, so you can add wording to terms you created in the console. See Import and export a glossary.
Add terms through the API
A deploy token with the manage ability can create a term, wording included, with POST https://api.transglot.ai/v1/glossary:
curl -X POST https://api.transglot.ai/v1/glossary \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TRANSGLOT_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"source_term": "Checkout",
"part_of_speech": "noun",
"notes": "The payment page.",
"translations": { "de": "Kasse", "fr": "Paiement" }
}'case_sensitive, do_not_translate and forbidden are optional booleans. A term marked do not translate or forbidden ignores translations. See the API reference.
If it doesn't work
- No Add term button: your role cannot change the glossary. Ask a Developer, an Admin or an account Owner.
- "That term is already in this glossary.": each source term appears once. To change an existing term's wording, import a file that includes it.
- A translation ignores the term: check that the source text contains the term as written (with the same capitals, if the term is case-sensitive), and that Use the glossary is on in the project's AI profile. With enforcement set to Off, the checks do not flag a translation that departs from the term.
