The screenshot library

Browse the screenshots reviewers capture in your app, which show each string in the place it actually appears.

A row in the editor does not tell you whether a translation fits its button. A screenshot does. The screenshot library collects the screenshots your reviewers capture with the in-context editor while they edit strings on your own site, each one tagged with the key it shows.

Open the project and select Screenshots in the sidebar. Everyone who can open the project can browse it. Capturing new screenshots needs the in-context editor, which is included on Starter and above.

Where screenshots are used

Screenshots are context, not content. They never change a translation. They are used:

  • By reviewers, to judge whether a translation fits the space and the situation.
  • By Glossa, when the project's Screenshot context setting is on (Settings → AI translation, Team and above). A key's screenshot then goes with its translation request, so the wording is written for where it appears, and quality checks can flag text that overflows the space it renders in. Screenshots add image cost to every request that uses them.
  • In review sheets exported for a person to work on, which include a link to each string's screenshot.

Privacy and retention

Screenshots are taken of your live app, so they can show personal data. transglot strips the image metadata, stores screenshots privately, and serves them only through short-lived links. Every screenshot is deleted automatically 90 days after it is captured.

Delete a screenshot

Owners, Admins and Developers can delete a screenshot sooner, for example one that captured sensitive information. Select Delete on the screenshot, then Delete screenshot to confirm. The image is removed permanently. The keys it showed keep their translations but lose the visual context.

If it doesn't work

  • "No screenshots yet": nobody has captured one. Screenshots are taken as part of an edit, so the in-context editor must be connected with editing turned on. A read-only session never captures one. See Connect the in-context editor.
  • "The in-context editor unlocks on the Starter plan.": screenshots already captured stay visible and can be deleted, but new captures need a plan that includes the in-context editor.
