Move a workspace to another account
Move a workspace, with its projects and people, to a different account you own, so that account pays for it from then on.
Who can do this: a person who is an Owner of both accounts: the one the workspace is in now, and the one it moves to. Only accounts you own are offered as destinations.
To move a workspace to an account you do not own, ask an Owner of that account to make you an Owner of it first. You can then move the workspace, and they can remove you afterwards. See Account Owners and Billing members.
Start the move
Open the workspace's General settings and select Move to another account, or select Move on the workspace's row on the account's Workspaces page.
Choose the destination
Under Destination, pick the account to move the workspace to. If you own no other account, the page offers New account so you can create one first.
Read what changes
What changes lists what the move does: the plan the workspace runs on afterwards, the seats, projects and languages it brings against the destination's plan, and any features the destination's plan does not include. Tick each change to confirm it.
Choose which credentials to revoke
Credentials in the workspace lists its tokens and keys. "Ticked credentials are revoked when" the workspace moves. Those whose creator loses access to the workspace start ticked. "Unchecked credentials keep working after" the move.
Confirm the move
Select Move workspace, type the workspace's name, then select Move to followed by the destination account's name.
What happens next
The message names the workspace, the account it moved to, and the plan it now runs on, for example "Docs moved to Acme Inc. It now runs on Team." From then on:
- The workspace runs on the destination account's plan, and the destination account pays for it.
- "Words already used this cycle stay on" the old account's usage. Invoices already issued stay with the old account.
- Features the destination's plan does not include stop working in the workspace once it moves.
- If the workspace used single sign-on, enforcement for its email domain stops, and the domain must be verified again in the new account.
- A workspace that was read-only because the old account was on Free becomes active, if the destination has room for it.
The move is recorded in the workspace's audit log.
If it doesn't work
The page explains why a move cannot go ahead yet. The common reasons:
- The destination's plan has no room: its plan allows fewer workspaces, seats, projects or languages than the move needs. Upgrade the destination first.
- "... has an unpaid invoice ... Pay it before moving workspaces out.": settle the old account's invoice on Plan & billing.
- "... is scheduled for deletion. Cancel the deletion first.": cancel the workspace's deletion, then move it.
- The workspace is on the open source plan: moving it would end the account's open source plan, so the page asks you to contact support to move the grant. The open source plan covers one workspace, so an account on it cannot receive another one either.
- "You can move a workspace only between two accounts you own.": become an Owner of the destination account first.
- "You tried several moves in a minute. Wait a minute, then try again."
