Comment on a string

Discuss a string with your team, mention the people who need to see it, and resolve the thread when it is settled.

Every key has one comment thread, shared across all of its languages. Anyone who can open the project can read, post and resolve comments, whatever their role.

Post a comment

Open the thread

In the editor, switch to Table. Under the key name, select Comment. When the key has open comments, the link shows how many instead.

Write it

Type into Add a comment…. Comments can be up to 5,000 characters.

Mention someone (optional)

Select Mention and pick a teammate. Their name is added to your comment and they are notified when you post it. Only members who can open the project are offered, and only they are notified.

Post

Select Comment.

Who is notified

WhoNotification
Everyone you mention"Your name mentioned you", with the key name and the start of your comment. Sent in the console and by email.
Everyone who has already commented on the key"New comment on a string", in the console.

You are never notified of your own comment. If your workspace sends notifications to Slack, the comment is posted there too. Each person can change which of these they receive by email in their notification preferences.

Resolve, reopen and delete

  • Resolve marks a comment as settled. Reopen brings it back. Anyone who can open the project can do both.
  • Delete removes a comment. You can delete your own comments; Admins and the account's Owners can delete anyone's.

Find strings with open discussions

In the editor, open Filters and tick Has unresolved comment to see only the keys with a comment that has not been resolved. See Filter the editor.

If it doesn't work

  • "Could not post comment.": the comment did not save. Your text is still in the box; try again.
  • A comment shows Former member as its author: the person who wrote it is no longer in the workspace.
