Turn on usage-based billing
Let translation continue past your included words, with a spend cap on what it can cost each cycle.
Who can do this: the Owners and Billing members of the account, on a paid plan with a working card on file.
Decide the cap first. It is a hard stop, not an alert, so pick an amount you are willing to be charged in full in one cycle.
Open Usage
Open Settings, choose the Account tab, then Usage.
Turn on usage beyond the plan
Under Usage-based overage, turn on Usage beyond the plan. The switch saves as you change it. "Usage beyond the plan is on. Set a spend cap below to start paying for words above the plan. Until then translation stops at the included words."
Set the spend cap
Enter the Spend cap a cycle, in USD.
Save the cap
Select Save cap. "Spend cap saved. It applies to every workspace of the account."
What happens next
Once the included words are used up, translation carries on and the extra words are charged as usage until the cap is reached. At the cap, translation beyond the included words pauses in every workspace of the account until the next cycle or until you raise the cap. A banner names the cap and offers Raise the cap.
To go back to stopping at the included words, turn off Usage beyond the plan. "Words above the plan are no longer charged." Clearing the cap has the same effect: "Translation stops at the included words until you set one."
Changes to the cap are recorded in the account log.
If it doesn't work
- "Turn on usage beyond the plan before you set a spend cap.": the cap field is locked until the switch is on.
- "... does not sell words beyond the plan. A paid plan does.": the account is on Free or the open source plan. See Change your plan.
- "Words beyond the trial are not sold.": usage beyond the plan starts with your first paid cycle.
- "Add a card in the payment portal first, so usage beyond the plan can be collected." or "The card on file has expired. Update it in the payment portal first.": open Manage payment on Plan & billing. See Invoices and payment.
- "Usage beyond the plan is billed in USD, and ... pays in another currency. Contact support to change it."
- "Usage beyond the plan is paused until the bill for ... is settled.": an earlier cycle's usage has not been paid yet. Included words still work.
