Usage-based billing
What happens when your account's included words run out, with usage-based billing off and with it on.
Who can change it: the Owners and Billing members of the account. Everyone in the account's workspaces is affected by it.
Your plan includes an allowance of AI translation each month. Usage is measured against that allowance, and what happens when you exceed it depends on whether usage-based billing is turned on for your workspace. The setting is called Usage-based overage and lives on the account's Usage page, so it applies to every workspace of the account at once. It is off by default.
With usage-based billing off
When the included words are used up, AI translation stops in every workspace of the account until the words reset at the start of the next cycle, or until you change plan. A run that needs more words than are left is refused before it starts, and nothing is charged. Nothing unexpected appears on your bill.
Members of each workspace see that "The account this workspace belongs to has no AI words left", with the date the words reset and the names of the people who can change the plan.
Work that does not use words carries on: reading, editing by hand, reviewing, exporting, and translations reused from memory.
With usage-based billing on
"Words above the plan's allowance are charged at the overage rate, up to the spend cap, instead of pausing translation." Translation carries on past the allowance, and the extra words are charged as usage on top of the plan.
The Spend cap a cycle, in USD is a ceiling, not a warning. When the account reaches it, translation beyond the included words pauses in every workspace until the next cycle or until you raise the cap, exactly as if usage-based billing were off. With usage-based billing on and no cap set, translation still stops at the included words.
While an account is new, the cap may be released in stages: part of it now, and the full amount once earlier usage charges are paid. The card on the Usage page shows both figures.
The overage rate is listed on transglot.ai/pricing. Before a run that would go past the allowance, its confirmation estimates what the extra words will add to this month's bill.
Who can use it
Usage-based billing is available on the paid plans. It is not available:
- on Free or the open source plan, which stop at their allowance;
- during a trial ("Words beyond the trial are not sold.");
- without a working card on file;
- for an account that pays in a currency other than US dollars.
The card on the Usage page says which of these applies.
